2021 Arts Festival Information

Join us for the Valley Junction Arts Festival, Sunday June 13, 2021, from 10am – 4pm. The show features a juried exhibition of fine art and crafts from vendors across our area, giving the public the opportunity to meet, interact with, and purchase from local artists offering original work.

Refreshments will be available from several food vendors on the street and many Valley Junction restaurants and retailers will be open.

Historic Valley Junction is six square blocks of specialty stores, art galleries, antique shops, fashion boutiques, hair salons, service businesses, and restaurants. Many of these businesses will be open to the public during the festival.

The event layout will be adjusted to facilitate continued social distancing because safety remains our priority.  The Art Committee is planning to offer live performance entertainment and artist demonstrations in line with social distancing precautions.

The Valley Junction Arts Festival will be held rain or shine. Admission is free.

Cost

Jury Fee: $20.00.  The jury fee is nonrefundable.
Standard Booth Fee (15’x20′): $125.00

How to Apply

Artists wishing to apply for the Arts Festival must submit the online application form along with four color images of their work, and the nonrefundable $20 jury fee. Images submitted must be representative of work to be exhibited and will serve as the only criterion used.

All work must be original and creative. Kits, commercial molds, factory or machine produced items will not be juried into the event.

Selection and Judging

Our early application deadline is April 22, 2021.  This means the jury will begin reviewing submissions and admitting artists after this date.  After this date, the jury will continue to review and approve applications until the show is full.

A panel of jurors will review images. The judges will have your photographs, description of how you produce your work, and your artist statement, but they will not have any identifying information about you. All decisions of the jury panel are final.

Artists who submit their application prior to April 22 will be notified about 2 weeks after, and the same is true of artists who apply after April 22, until the show is sold out.

Merit Awards

The jury will award three prizes which will be recognized publicly during the show.

Logistics

The Valley Junction Arts Festival starts at 10 am and runs until 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

  • All spaces are approximately 15’ wide by 20’ deep in an open outdoor area.
  • Artists must furnish tables, chairs and any set-up items.
  • All participating artists must have a white tent.
  • All tents must be fire retardant
  • As the Arts Festival is an outdoor show, please be prepared in the event of inclement weather, including wind. There is no rain date scheduled. NO REFUNDS WILL BE MADE.
  • Booth assignments will be made in advance.
  • Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. 8:00 am and coffee and pastries will be available from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at 137 5th Street.
  • One flip bin of commercially printed reproductions will be allowed. The bin must be labeled. No reproductions will be allowed to hang.
  • One artist allowed per booth unless work is collaborative.

Social Distancing & Safety

All approved artists will be expected to read our Coronavirus Safety Guidelines and sign an agreement to follow them prior to setting up your booth at the festival.  We are adjusting our event layout to support social distancing and will require vendors to wear masks while strongly encouraging them among the public.

Sales Tax

It is each vendor’s responsibility to know if they are required to collect and remit Iowa Sales Tax. HVJF does not accept responsibility for vendors who fail to meet this obligation.  Vendors who are required to remit sales tax must have a permanent valid Sales Tax Permit. Temporary sales tax permits are no longer issued. Failure to respond and reply to sales tax inquires by the Internal Revenue Service will eliminate vendors from future participation in the Valley Junction Arts Festival, as well as other Valley Junction special events. For questions, please call the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance at 515-281-3114.
